AI Identifies Three Subtypes of Multiple Sclerosis in MRI Brain Scans
A new study may have discovered three new subtypes of multiple sclerosis (MS) using artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to analyze a dataset of MRI brain scans. The Subtype and Stage Inference (SuStaIn) AI tool identified "cortex-led," "normal-appearing white matter-led," and "lesion-led" MS subtypes. The new findings could eventually enable medical professional to better diagnose patients and prescribe more effective treatments. The study was published in Nature Communications.
